A Poem for a Fresh Spring Block of Yoga Classes

Sanctuary by Ada Limón

Suppose it’s easy to slip
into another’s green skin,
bury yourself in leaves

and wait for a breaking,
a breaking open, a breaking
out. I have, before, been

tricked into believing
I could be both an I
and the world. The great eye

of the world is both gaze
and gloss. To be swallowed
by being seen. A dream.

To be made whole
by being not a witness,
but witnessed.

This poem speaks to me at this time of soft opening to sunlight in infinite shades of green. Ada Limón is the current Poet Laureate in the USA (I didn’t know this….), and I heard her reading this and others of her poems on the great Podcast by Krista Tippett - On Being - LINK HERE

Actually I’ve been binging on Krista Tippett recently on long drives and during long days of painting and decorating - her interviews overflow with generosity, surprise and openness to the world as it is. I want to bring these qualities into Yoga - in my own personal practice and in my classes.

The next 6 week block of classes starts today (Monday 17th April) at the Community Centre of Pendeen and we will be spending these weeks opening to Spring through a considered approach to back-bending - Lots of flow, lots of spacious breathing - and a feeling of opening the front of the body, expanding the chest, strengthening the back of the body - and with any luck, a feeling of unbridled joy and compassion - for no reason - the best kind!

I look forward to seeing you on the mat 💚💚💚
